How good is SpicyChat for gay AI roleplay?

A huge library of user-made male bots and the most generous free tier around, held back by 4K memory, drifting characters and an image model that its own docs say can turn men into women.

Key points

  • The real strength is free volume: about 2,000 messages a day signed in (per third-party reporting), against 10 to 30 on the companion apps.
  • The main weakness is memory: 4,096 tokens on Free and Get A Taste, roughly 20 messages. True Supporter ($19.95) doubles it.
  • Set your persona as a man and read the personality field before you start. That fixes most of the default-to-female problem.
  • I'd skip the images for male characters. SpicyChat's docs admit a bias toward women and say it "may turn a man into a woman".
  • Prices rose on September 8, 2026, to $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95 a month, same features as before.
  • The alternatives I'd try first: Joi to build him, Lovescape for a gay boyfriend flow at $9.99, Candy for images that keep his face.

SpicyChat is good for gay roleplay in one way: it hands you a very large pile of user-made male bots and a free tier that, per third-party reporting, allows about 2,000 messages a day once you sign in. No companion app comes close on volume. It is weak almost everywhere else that matters in a long MLM scene. Free memory is 4,096 tokens, bots drift out of the dynamic you set, and the image model, by SpicyChat's own admission, can turn a man into a woman. If you want odd archetypes and lots of free text and don't mind managing the bot yourself, open an account. If you want one man who stays himself for weeks, start with the list below.

This piece is based on SpicyChat's own documentation and its September 2026 pricing notice, user reports on Trustpilot, and the desk's paid tests of the alternatives (each linked to its full review). Where something can only be confirmed inside the app, such as the current tag list, I say so instead of guessing.

Short version of the alternatives, in the order I'd try them. Longer notes on each are further down.

1. Joi AI Best overall

Building the exact man you want

4.3

SpicyChat makes you hunt for a bot and then hold him in place. Joi lets you write him: twelve personality sliders, an occupation and backstory field, and six chat registers you can switch mid-scene. In the desk's review, the character built on day one still read the same on day twelve, and the explicit script on Pro drew zero refusals. Plan on Pro at $17.77, since Premium clips replies at about 115 characters.

  • Explicit chat Premium $9.99, uncapped on Pro $17.77
  • Free tier 30 messages/day
  • Memory ~14/20 recall
Lovescape screenshot

2. Lovescape Gay boyfriend flow

Romance pacing and diverse men at a flat price

4.1

Lovescape runs a dedicated gay-boyfriend creation flow, realistic or anime, which is the closest thing here to a gay mode. The builder has eight ethnic backgrounds and four body types, including plus-size. It topped the desk's warmth-and-callback rubric and went explicit in four messages with no refusals on Premium. $9.99 covers NSFW and about 50 images a month, no coins.

  • Explicit chat Premium $9.99
  • Free tier ~30 SFW messages/day
  • Images ~50/month
Candy AI screenshot

3. Candy AI Best images of him

A curated male cast and a face that stays his

4.8

The fix for SpicyChat's image model. Candy has 30+ curated male characters across realistic, anime and stylized art, and its character lock kept the same man's face across 100+ generations in the boyfriend tests. Its long-horizon memory is the best on the site, 18 of 20 callbacks over ten days. NSFW text is on Premium at $12.99; explicit images need Plus at $22.99.

  • Explicit chat Premium $12.99 ($6.99 annual)
  • Free tier 10 messages/day
  • Memory 18/20 recall

4. Nectar AI Best memory control

Long scenes where he has to remember you

4.2

Nectar's memory inspector lists every fact the model holds about you, and each row is editable. If he decides you're a woman, you fix it in one tap instead of hoping the context window catches up. It scored 43/50 on the desk's coherence script and 19/20 on memory. $9.99 covers NSFW and about 80 images a month.

  • Explicit chat Premium $9.99
  • Free tier ~20 to 30 SFW messages/day
  • Memory 19/20, editable

5. OurDream AI Video

Seeing him move

4.1

SpicyChat has no video at any price. OurDream includes about 20 AI clips a month on its $9.99 plan, and 27 of 34 were usable in the desk's test. The visual builder is the deepest on the site, with character lock in 91% of 217 images. Chat is a step behind the others and it runs in the browser only.

  • Explicit chat Premium $9.99
  • Video ~20 clips/month
  • Images ~150/month

6. AI Gay Gay-only roster

Men already written for a gay user

Every character on AI Gay is an adult man written for gay users, so there's no default to fight. Fifteen characters, aged 22 to 52, cover the archetypes people search SpicyChat for: bear, daddy dom, silver fox, bodybuilder, soft boy, twink, boy next door. You get three free messages, then Premium for unlimited chat, NSFW and photos. No voice and no builder, so you choose a man instead of designing one.

  • Explicit chat Premium
  • Free tier 3 messages
  • Roster 15 men, 22 to 52

7. My AI Romance Free, no signup

Trying gay-persona chat at zero cost

4.4

The closest match to SpicyChat on price: free, no account, unlimited messages, and 50 named characters with straight and gay personas built in. Explicit content runs on "sensible guardrails", so it is tamer than SpicyChat, and there are no images or voice. Memory holds within a session, not over weeks. Good for working out what you like before you pay anyone.

What SpicyChat is, in one paragraph

SpicyChat is a community bot platform, closer to a library than a companion app. Users write the characters, SpicyChat supplies the models and the hosting, and you pay for bigger models and more memory. Estimates of the library size run from roughly 150,000 to over 500,000 bots depending on who is counting, so I'll just say hundreds of thousands. Same-sex content is allowed under the same rules as everything else, and the community guidelines ban hate speech aimed at sexual orientation. What it doesn't have is anything built for gay users: no male default, no gay mode, no curated MLM shelf. You are borrowing a general-purpose system and steering it yourself. For the wider field of roleplay platforms, the site's roleplay chatbot guide has the comparison.

Finding gay and male bots on SpicyChat

Search first, then filter by tag

Creators pick up to 12 tags per bot from a fixed list, and a public bot needs at least two. SpicyChat's tag docs say misleading tags can get a bot unpublished, which helps a little: a bot tagged as male is usually male. The docs only show the tag list in screenshots and it changes, so check in the app which male and LGBTQ-themed tags exist today before trusting anyone's list. The workflow I'd use: search the archetype you actually want ("bear", "coach", "rival", "roommate"), narrow by tag, then read the card before you press chat.

Read the personality field, not the greeting

The greeting is written to get the click; the personality field is what the model works from. I check three things there: his stated age, whether the creator wrote him as gay or bi or simply as "a man", and who the creator assumed you are. On a platform this size, plenty of popular male bots are written for a female user, with "she" and "her" baked into the scenario. You can fix that in a sentence if you spot it early.

Age is the other check. SpicyChat requires that "all narratives must involve individuals aged 18 or older", and its moderators review youthful-looking bots individually even when they carry an adult label. Twink-tagged characters are fine as long as they are written as adults. If a card doesn't state an adult age, skip it.

Set your own persona as a man

This is the biggest single fix and it costs nothing. A SpicyChat persona holds your name, background and relationship to the character, so the bot isn't left to guess who it's talking to. Write that you're a man, give yourself a name, and put the dynamic in one line ("his boyfriend of two years", "the new guy on his crew"). Free accounts get 3 personas per third-party reporting; Get A Taste gets 10, True Supporter 50 and I'm All In 100. Keep one persona per dynamic.

How the roleplay holds up

Staying in the dynamic

The complaint that shows up most for male bots is drift. One Trustpilot reviewer (May 2026) set up a male bot as feminine and shy and watched him turn "masculine, muscular and just a stereotypical man". Another (also May) reported bots using "they/their" "despite the persona having male in it", and an August review describes a pronoun mix-up going the other way. A handful of reports on a page rated 2.0 out of 5 from 62 reviews (checked October 28, 2026) is not a measured rate, but it fits the mechanics: with a small context window and a stranger's card, the model falls back on its most common pattern, and for a man in a romantic scene that pattern is often straight-coded. The same pull runs the other way with soft-styled men, which is the main problem in the desk's look at femboy characters on SpicyChat.

Memory: why he forgets you're a man

SpicyChat's context docs are blunt. When the window fills, "the oldest messages drop out", and once a message is outside it, "the AI may no longer use it". On Free and Get A Taste that window is 4,096 tokens, which roborhythms estimates at about 20 messages. A detail you set in message three (you're his ex, you're both thirty, who leads) can be gone by message twenty-five unless it lives in your persona or his card instead of in the chat.

True Supporter ($19.95) doubles the window to 8,192 tokens and adds Semantic Memory 2.0. I'm All In ($29.95) goes up to 32,768 tokens on models that support it. Memory Manager, which lets you pin facts, starts at Get A Taste. My order of fixes: persona first, pinned facts second, and a one-line restatement when the scene changes ("still at his place, still pretending we're not together").

Which model to pick for MLM scenes

Free gets 8B to 30B models, including Default 26B, Zeta G4 26B, Lyra Spiced 8B and Stheno 8B. Get A Taste adds Magnum 12B and Magnum Diamond 24B, which SpicyChat's own model page says "may occasionally break character". True Supporter adds the 24B models and Qwen3 235B. The very large models, DeepSeek V3, Kimi K2 and the 744B Glam line, are all on I'm All In. The docs warn the list may be out of date, so check the picker. On Free I'd run one scene on Default, then the same bot on Zeta G4, before blaming the card.

Explicit content and the rules

NSFW is a profile setting: one switch to show explicit bots, one to blur explicit images. SpicyChat sorts bots into NSFW and SFW automatically, and its FAQ notes that SFW bots can still do NSFW roleplay. In France, the UK, Italy, Australia and 26 US states (including Texas, Florida, Virginia and Utah), you have to pass age verification by video selfie, with an ID check as fallback, or explicit content stops loading.

The hard rules are the ones to plan scenes around. Adults only. No non-consent, "even in fictional settings". No family roleplay of any kind, step-family included. No bots of real or private people, and public figures only without realistic imagery, which rules out most of the athlete and celebrity requests. Power dynamics are allowed, so coach and athlete, boss and assistant, or guard and inmate scenes are fine as long as both men are adults and consenting.

Images of male characters: the weakest part

Conversation images start at True Supporter, and on that tier only for bots that show the images icon. I'm All In opens them on any character, including your own. The styles are Anime and Semi-Realistic, the model is DreamShaper-8, and likeness comes from a LoRA trained on a single reference image. SpicyChat's image docs then say this, verbatim: "This model has a bias toward generating images of caucasian females due to the way it was trained." And: "In some cases, it may turn a man into a woman, or not respect skin color."

I respect the honesty, but for gay roleplay that is close to disqualifying. You are paying $19.95 a month for a feature its maker says can change your character's gender. Spelling out gender and physical traits on your own characters helps at the margins, per the docs. Roborhythms describes the output as noticeably low-resolution next to Candy AI, and there is no video at any tier. Compare that with the site's AI boyfriend guide, where the same Candy character's face "stayed recognizably his" across 100+ generations, or OurDream, which held character lock in 91% of 217 images in its review and ships short AI video clips on the $9.99 plan.

SpicyChat pricing for gay roleplay after the September 2026 increase

SpicyChat raised prices on September 8, 2026. Its pricing FAQ says only prices changed and features per tier stayed the same. Existing subscribers keep their old price while they stay on the same plan. Many pages still quote the old $5, $14.95 and $24.95.

PlanMonthlyAnnualMemoryMax replyImagesWhat it changes for gay RP
Free$0n/a4,096 tokens180 tokensNoEnough to judge the library; ads, queues at peak
Get A Taste$5.95$60.004,096 tokens180 tokensNoNo ads, Memory Manager to pin "I'm a man" facts
True Supporter$19.95$199.958,192 tokens300 tokensOnly on bots with the images iconFirst tier that changes the roleplay: double memory, Semantic Memory 2.0
I'm All In$29.95$299.95Up to 32,768 tokens300 tokensAny bot, including your ownThe big models, voice, generation settings

My read: Free is enough to find out whether the bots you want exist. Get A Taste mostly removes ads and buys pinned facts, but leaves you on the same 4K window, so I'd skip it. True Supporter is the first tier where long scenes stop falling apart, and at $19.95 it costs more than Lovescape, Nectar or OurDream Premium, each $9.99 in our reviews. One thing SpicyChat does better than everyone on this page is the free tier itself: Joi gives you 30 messages a day, Candy 10, Lovescape about 30 (SFW only) and Nectar about 20 to 30.

SpicyChat for gay roleplay: pros and cons

What works

  • About 2,000 free messages a day signed in, per third-party reporting, with no coin economy
  • Hundreds of thousands of user-made bots, including archetypes no curated app will ever write
  • Group chat with 2 to 10 bots for ensemble scenes
  • Real creator tools: personas, lorebooks, rulebooks, Director Mode
  • Runs in a browser, nothing to install

What doesn't

  • 4,096-token memory on Free and Get A Taste, about 20 messages
  • User reports of male bots drifting out of character and slipping pronouns
  • Image model that its own docs say can turn a man into a woman
  • The largest models sit on the $29.95 tier
  • Prices rose on September 8, 2026 with no new features
  • Uneven bot quality, and a 2.0 out of 5 Trustpilot score from 62 reviews citing queues and automated moderation

Group chat is the one thing the curated apps don't do. The group chat docs allow 2 to 10 bots (free users pick each responder by hand, premium gets auto response, no images or voice), and SpicyChat says groups under six stay more coherent. For anything explicit I'd keep it to two or three men.

SpicyChat alternatives for gay roleplay

Each of these fixes a specific SpicyChat gap: memory, drift, images, or the work of finding a bot written for you in the first place. None has SpicyChat's library or its free volume. The male-persona side of the four big apps is covered in more depth in the AI boyfriend guide; the numbers below come from each app's full review.

Joi AI: build him so he can't drift

Most SpicyChat drift happens because you're steering someone else's character. On Joi you write him, dominant or submissive slider included, and the six chat registers let you change his tone without rewriting a card. The catches are all in the Joi review: the 115-character reply cap on Premium, coins for images after the starter pack (budget $25 to $35 a month if you generate a lot), and recall of about 14 of 20 facts, below Candy and Nectar. I went through the male roster and the builder in more detail in my piece on gay chats with Joi.

Lovescape: the gay boyfriend flow at a flat price

Lovescape is the only app on this list with a create-your-gay-boyfriend flow, so you start from a man instead of converting a default. Its romance writing topped the desk's warmth-and-callback rubric, which is the long-scene quality SpicyChat's 4K window can't hold. It also escalates fast, four messages from flirting to explicit in the Lovescape review, so set the pace yourself. The catch is privacy: a 1,142-word policy with no stated retention window, which comes up again, next to the male builder, in the desk's take on Lovescape gay content.

Candy AI: images that keep his face

This is the direct answer to SpicyChat's image problem: where DreamShaper-8 may swap his gender, Candy kept the same man's face, scar and haircut across 100+ generations in the boyfriend tests. The curated male writing is the strongest on the site, and the Candy review clocked 18 of 20 callbacks over ten days. Budget for Plus at $22.99 if you want explicit images, and expect to judge it on the reviews, since the free tier is 10 messages.

Nectar AI: memory you can correct

If your SpicyChat bot keeps forgetting you're a man, the inspector is the fix, because you can see the stored fact and correct it yourself. A Reddit user quoted in the Nectar review sums up the comparison: "Compared to SpicyChat it's smoother though not as flexible as Talkie." That matches the desk's read. You give up the giant library for chat that holds together. Heavy explicit sessions get shorter, cooler replies after roughly 90 to 120 minutes.

OurDream AI: seeing him move

If what you want is a man who looks the way you described him, and moves, this is the pick. The 3 to 5 second clips in the OurDream review had a reject rate of about one in five, which is honest for AI video. The trade-offs: chat scored 38/50, the voice was the weakest in the desk's sweep, and there is no native mobile app.

AI Gay: a roster written for gay users

AI Gay skips the search problem. Every character is an adult man written for a gay user, so there's nothing to coax back into register, and the archetypes (a dominant with a kink focus, a daddy dom, a soft boy and so on) are the ones people go digging through SpicyChat tags for. It's browser only, with no voice and no builder: you pick a man rather than design one. Premium, per the site, opens unlimited chat, full NSFW and image generation. There's no desk review yet, so no score.

My AI Romance: the free option with gay personas

For someone who came to SpicyChat for the free tier, this matches it on price and beats it on friction: no account at all. It scored 4.4 in the My AI Romance review, mostly on value. It is tamer than SpicyChat on explicit content and memory works within a session rather than over weeks. Use it to find out what you like before paying anyone.

SpicyChat vs the alternatives for gay roleplay

SpicyChat sits in the first row as a reference. It has no review on this site, so it has no score.

Who should stay on SpicyChat (and who shouldn't)

Stay if you want free volume, niche archetypes and group scenes, and you're willing to do the maintenance: a male persona, a quick read of every card, pinned facts, the odd restatement. Used that way, the free tier beats anything else in the category, and the library will have the guy no product team would write.

Leave if you want one man who remembers you over weeks (Nectar or Candy), want to design him from scratch (Joi), want pictures of him that actually look like him (Candy or OurDream), or want a roster that already assumes you're a gay man (AI Gay).

If drift is your main problem, try Joi AI and build the man yourself. If you'd rather start from a gay boyfriend flow at a flat $9.99, try Lovescape.

SpicyChat gay roleplay FAQ

Does SpicyChat allow gay roleplay?

Yes. Nothing in SpicyChat's community guidelines restricts same-sex content, and hate speech targeting sexual orientation is banned. Gay scenes follow the same rules as any NSFW bot: every character must be 18 or older, no non-consent even in fiction, no family or step-family roleplay, and no bots of real private people.

How do I find gay or male bots on SpicyChat?

Search for the archetype you want, then narrow with tags. Creators can add up to 12 tags from a fixed list, and the list changes, so check in the app which male and LGBTQ-themed tags exist. Before you start, read the bot's personality field to confirm his age, his orientation and who the creator assumed you are, then set your own persona as a man.

Is SpicyChat free for gay roleplay?

The free tier is the most generous in the category: about 2,000 messages a day signed in, per third-party reporting, with ads, 4,096-token memory and no images. Paid plans since September 8, 2026 are Get A Taste at $5.95, True Supporter at $19.95 and I'm All In at $29.95 a month.

Why does my SpicyChat bot keep calling me "she" or forget I'm a man?

Usually memory. On Free and Get A Taste the context window is 4,096 tokens, about 20 messages, and SpicyChat's docs say the oldest messages drop out when it fills. Put "I'm a man" in your persona rather than the chat, pin it with Memory Manager on a paid plan, and check that the bot's card doesn't assume a female user. True Supporter adds 8K memory and Semantic Memory 2.0.

Can SpicyChat generate images of male characters?

On True Supporter and above, yes, but SpicyChat's own docs say the model has "a bias toward generating images of caucasian females" and "may turn a man into a woman". Spelling out gender and physical traits on your character helps a little. If images of him matter, Candy AI or OurDream are far more reliable.

Do I need age verification on SpicyChat?

Only in some regions: France, the UK, Italy, Australia and 26 US states, including Texas, Florida and Virginia. SpicyChat uses a video selfie with an ID check as fallback. Without it, NSFW content is no longer accessible in those regions.

What is the best SpicyChat alternative for gay roleplay?

Joi AI if you want to build the man yourself so he can't drift, Lovescape if you want a dedicated gay boyfriend flow at a flat $9.99, and AI Gay if you want a roster where every character is already a man written for gay users. For free chat with gay personas and no signup, try My AI Romance.
